Fourques Hautes dolmen

Fourques Hautes dolmen

The Dolmen of Fourques Hautes is located in the middle of a cultivated field northwest of Brengues with a view of the valley of the Célé near Livernon in the Lot department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The access to the dolmen was narrowed on one side by a dry stone wall . Sheep used to be housed here, perhaps it also served as a “cazelle” (shepherd's hut); recently also as a proposition for hunters. The back wall of the dolmen is also a dry stone construction that completely hides the end stone.

The floor of the dolmen appears to be at least partially paved, but this doesn't have to be contemporary with the construction as the site has obviously been excavated. The heavily weathered capstone measures around 3.3 × 2.5 × 0.55 m. On the capstone were Lesesteine set. This gives it the appearance of the Verdier-Petit dolmen in Durbans on which many stones have also been laid. The hill has not been preserved.

The dolmen in Fourques Hautes lies in a field and is not always accessible.

Nearby is the Fourques Basses dolmen.
