Dolmen of La Cabaña

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The dolmen of La Cabaña ( German  the cabin , also called dolmen of la Lora ) is located in the moors near Sargentes de la Lora in Castile-León and is one of the largest dolmens in Spain . It was built about 5000 years ago during the Neolithic and archaeologists have confirmed its use for more than 1000 years.

The megalithic complex consists of a round or polygonal chamber with a diameter of about 3.0 m, formed from about 2.0 m high upright limestone slabs and the about 5.0 m long corridor, both of which are surrounded by a round hill of earth and about 16 m Stones are supported. Three ceiling panels have been preserved above the corridor, while those of the chamber are missing. The stones that make up the dolmen come from the immediate area and some of the old outcrops lie along the nearby stream.

In 1985, a team of archaeologists from the University of Valladolid found human remains, an arrowhead, and a necklace.

To the east is the El Moreco dolmen, which has great similarities.
