Las Arnillas dolmen

The dolmen of Las Arnillas is one of the best preserved or best restored megalithic tombs in the north of the Iberian Peninsula .

location

The dolmen is located in the municipality of Valle de Sedano about 3 km from the village of Moradillo de Sedano in the province of Burgos in Castile and León in Spain . Its lonely location at an altitude of more than 1000  m is striking .

description

The dolmen shows the typical structure of a megalithic complex with a corridor and a round chamber (Spanish: corredor con cámara circular ). The latter is still protected here by the ring-shaped hill about 25 m in diameter, which still has large parts of its border. The side corridor with more than ten orthostats with door lintel and (supplemented) intermediate masonry penetrates the hill. Since there is a strongly jagged and no level upper end of the side wall of the chamber, which consists of 10 vertical panels, it is assumed that the building was closed at the top with a wooden structure. The remains of almost 50 people and 13 skulls that could be related to a skull cult were found in the chamber . Children were excluded from this type of burial.
