Dom Handlowy "Zenit" is a trading building in the Polish city of Katowice at the southeast end of Rynek (Market Square) at the confluence of Warszawska ulica . Opposite are the Dom Prasy Śląskiej (House of the Silesian Press) and the Silesian Theater .
The building was completed in September 1962 as one of the first as part of the redesign of the market square. The Hotel Welt, which was destroyed in the Second World War, was located on the site from 1848 to 1945 . Architecturally striking are the glass cube in front of it, which extends over three floors, and the arcades below on the corner of Warszawska Street, which only have a design function. The cube kept causing problems because windows cracked and fell. It is currently largely obscured by billboards.
Today the building is only partially used as a department store; some floors are rented as office space. Rafał Król was responsible for the renovation project, which was carried out from 2008 to 2010. He is the son of Mieczysław Król, one of the two architects of the building.
