Dom Prasy Śląskiej is a building at the southwestern end of Rynek ( Market Square ) in Katowice at the confluence of 3 Maja street with Rynek. The building was completed in 1963 as part of the redesign of the inner city. Two buildings damaged in the war were demolished for its construction. It was one of the first in Poland to have a pure glass facade. Initially known as the “House of Sports”, it was renamed “House of the Press” a short time later. The Obris travel agency and a café with 350 seats were located on the lower three floors of the building, and several newspaper offices on the upper floors .

The building after the renovation, now with a new facade

In the spring of 2011, the renovation and modernization of the building, which had been vacant since 2009, began; the work was carried out by Mostostal Warszawa . Before the renovation began, it was only used for gastronomic purposes. As part of the renovation, the main entrance will be relocated from ul. Młyńska to Rynek. After the renovation, the facade will have a new face, and one floor has been reduced. Part of the city administration will use the building. The total cost will be approximately 20 million zloty amount.
