Domenico Comin

Domenico Comin SDB (born September 9, 1874 in Santa Lucia di Budoja , Udine , † August 17, 1963 in Guayaquil ) was an Italian religious priest , missionary and Roman Catholic bishop .

Life

He entered the Novitiate of Don Bosco's Salesians in November 1892, and took vows the following year. According to his philosophical and theological studies he received in on 14 April 1900 Milan by Cardinal Andrea Carlo Ferrari , the ordination .

First he worked as a master at the Sant'Ambrogio Institute for two years. on September 27, 1902, he set out on a mission to Ecuador. When he arrived in Guayaquil, he was entrusted with the craftsmen and the Philanthropic Society , later he worked as a language teacher and managed the Santo Stefano Asylum . He also founded the Cristoforo Colombo College .

In 1908 he was provincial and provisional officer of the Méndez e Gualaquiza missions.

On March 5, 1920 Pope Benedict XV appointed him . as Apostolic Vicar of Méndez y Gualaquiza in Ecuador , associated with the titular diocese of Obba . The episcopal ordination took place on October 17, 1920 by Bishop Daniel Hermida Ortega . His bishopric was “Con l'Amore farò la mia conquista”. From April 12, 1951, the vicariate referred only to Méndez.

He is considered the Shuar apostle, who helped build numerous schools and boarding schools. In the social field, he supported the establishment of small cooperatives and workers' groups. He encouraged Don Carlo Crespi SDB in his studies of the customs and manners of the Shuar.
