Dominika von Gillern

Dominika Anna Maria Freiin von Gillern (born August 3, 1739 in Rettkau , Silesia , † August 17, 1810 in Trebnitz ) was the last ruling abbess of Trebnitz .

Life

Anna Maria came from the baronial branch of the noble family Gillern . At the age of 17 she entered the Cistercian monastery in Trebnitz, where she took the name Dominika . She was first kitchen master and later a creator ( administrator ) of the monastery. In 1789 she was elected by the convent of the monastery as Dominika I to the abbess of Trebnitz.

During her reign she donated three churches, acquired several estates and had two castles built. During the 1790s she supported many refugees from France who were on their way to Poland . She fought poverty in her domain and had a new hospital built for both denominations and several schools in Trebnitz.

Dominika died shortly before the monastery was dissolved by secularization in 1810. Her body was buried in the crypt of the Trebnitz monastery church. She was the last abbess of Trebnitz.
