life and work

Sutton was to a school in the UK , then she graduated from 1989 to 1990 an art education at West Surrey College of Fine Arts and received a graduate degree from 1991 to 1993, she studied at the John Moore's University in Liverpool and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from . She then traveled around the world and was a member of the San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco for eight months. In London she received several commissions and had her first solo exhibition of drawings and paintings in 1994 at the Wonersh Gallery in Surrey and in Australia her first solo exhibition there was in September 2000 at the PCL Exhibitionists Gallery in downtown Sydney.

In 1996 Sutton returned to Australia and got a job as a sculptor in a bronze foundry . In 1998 she was commissioned to erect three steel wire sculptures in front of the Sydney Tower in Sydney on the occasion of the 2000 Summer Olympics , including the 15-meter-high Sprinter weighing over 4.5 tons. Two sculptures, about 12 meters high, were erected as symbols for the participants in the Paralympic Games : the gymnast and The Paralympic basketball player . The sculptures were set up by a helicopter on a 250 meter high plateau in Sydney and statically checked, especially for wind pressure, and welded and anchored accordingly. The three sculptures mentioned above were placed in different locations after the games.

Dominique Sutton describes her work as being inspired by shapes, light and movement. Transparency is very important to her, because materials such as steel, glass and bronze can be opaque and are immobile. She gets her inspiration from moving people and their energies, which she holds in poses.
