Don Garber
Don Garber (born October 9, 1957 ) is an American sports official.
He is the commissioner of Major League Soccer and the CEO of Soccer United Marketing. He is also a board member of the United States Soccer Federation .
In 1999 he was appointed commissioner of the MLS, the highest agency of this organization. Previously, he held various positions with the National Football League for 19 years .
Career
Garber began his career with the National Wheelchair Athletic Association as the director of public relations. He then moved to the public relations departments of Ruder Finn and Burson-Marsteller. At Burson-Marsteller he negotiated with the NFL about a possible sponsorship commitment. As a result, he was lured away from the NFL.
National Football League
In 1984 he moved to the NFL and only worked there in marketing. In 1988 he became head of this department. In 1992 he became Vice President of the NFL and was responsible for business development, and thus directed all marketing activities of the NFL.
Major League Soccer
Garber was introduced on August 4, 1999 as the new commissioner of Major League Soccer. One of his first official acts was to adapt the rules. The MLS should be more in line with international standards. He was also able to secure the league's financial stability. In 2001, the two franchises Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay Mutiny were taken out of the MLS.
In the years to come, Garber relied on a long-term strategy to better represent American professional football. With new franchises he relied on a stable financial environment and set new standards in the field.

Garber is married and has two children. He lives in Montclair, New Jersey.
