Donald Harry "Don" Megson (born June 12, 1936 in Sale , Great Britain ) is a former English football player and coach and father of the football coach Gary Megson .

Player career

He made his debut as a libero from first division promoted Sheffield Wednesday in November 1959 . In the 1966 FA Cup final , he led his team as captain. He completed 386 league games for Sheffield Wednesday (6 goals) and moved to the Bristol Rovers in March 1970 , for which he completed 31 league games (1 goal).

Coaching career

He coached the Bristol Rovers from 1972 to 1977. In 1972 he won the Watney Cup with them in only his third game as a coach, in 1974 he rose with them to the Second Division . He also coached the Portland Timbers from 1978 to 1980 and 1983 for seven months at Bournemouth AFC .
