Don Murray (musician)
Don Murray (born June 7, 1904 in Joliet, Illinois , † June 2, 1929 in Los Angeles ) was an American musician ( clarinet , saxophone ) of Chicago jazz .
Live and act
Don Murray attended high school in Chicago . In his youth he became known there as a jazz clarinetist and saxophonist, in 1923 he recorded with the New Orleans Rhythm Kings ; Murray was not a regular member of the band, but always got into sessions. Further recordings were made with Jack Pettis and Bix Beiderbecke (1924).
Murray then took part in the recordings of Muggsy Spanier and was part of Jean Goldkette's band , which performed in Detroit . He stayed in Goldkette's band until 1929; after a brief guest appearance in Adrian Rollini's band, Murray was a member of Ted Lewis' orchestra , which also included Jimmy Dorsey and Benny Goodman . Murray also appeared in Ted Lewis' film Is Everybody Happy? (1929).
Don Murray died in a Los Angeles hospital in 1929 as a result of a traffic accident.
