Donagh MacDonagh
Donagh MacDonagh (born November 12, 1912 in Dublin , † January 1, 1968 ) was an Irish writer and judge .
Life
The son of the poet Thomas MacDonagh was still a young child when his father was executed in 1916 as a participant in the Easter Rising . Tragically, his mother died shortly afterwards in a swimming accident. MacDonagh was educated at Belvedere College and University College Dublin . In 1935 he was appointed a lawyer and in 1941 a judge.
In 1947 he published his first collection of poems, Hungry Grass ; A Warning to Conquerors followed in 1969 . He also edited the Oxford Book of Irish Verse (1958), together with Lennox Robinson . One play, Happy As Larry , has been translated into several languages. He also wrote short stories. He was married twice - his first wife died - and had four children.
