Donat-Peter Häder

Donat-Peter Häder (born June 27, 1944 ) is a German botanist and former holder of the Chair for Ecophysiology of Plants at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg .

Life

Häder received his doctorate in 1973 in Marburg and completed his habilitation in 1977 on the subject of "conduction of excitation in photophobic reactions of prokaryotic algae". He is the author and editor of numerous books on photobiology , photosynthesis and ozone depletion .

In 2001, together with the German Aerospace Center, he initiated the Gravimeeting, at which gravitational biologists from all over Germany have met at the end of each year in Erlangen to exchange information, give lectures and discussions.

In 2009 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Universidade da Região de Joinville. He was honored for his scientific work and in particular for establishing and maintaining contacts with the Brazilian university. In addition, on the occasion of this year's congress of the European Society for Photobiology, he was awarded the Society's Medal for his internationally recognized and groundbreaking research in the field of photobiology. The most important photobiological society in Europe honors Häder's outstanding life achievements in the field of light-controlled movement physiology and the effects of increased solar UV radiation on aquatic ecosystems with its highest scientific award. He is part of a team of experts that studies the effects of global climate change on behalf of the United Nations.
