The Dongjin Bridge

The Dongjin Bridge ( Chinese  東津橋  /  东津桥 , Pinyin Dongjin Qiao ) in the urban area Zhanggong the prefecture-level city Ganzhou , Province of Jiangxi , China is a pontoon bridge over the Gan Jiang (Gan River) north of the city ( 25 ° 52 ' 2.6 ″  N , 114 ° 56 ′ 41.3 ″  O coordinates: 25 ° 52 ′ 2.6 ″  N , 114 ° 56 ′ 41.3 ″  E ).

It is about 400 m long and 4.50 m wide. It consists of around 100 boats that are connected to each other with iron chains and on which wooden planks are attached as a bridge deck. The bridge ends at stairs that lead up the steep bank. When the water rises, it is connected to the higher and therefore further back stair sections by additional planks or short bridge sections. It can only be used by pedestrians and cyclists.

The Dongjin Bridge was first built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and has been renewed again and again since then. It is one of the few Chinese ship bridges that has stood the test of time.

In the south of Zhanggong there is another floating bridge about 300 m long and 4.30 m wide with about 80 boats. This bridge is bounded at both ends by an access portal on a larger steel pontoon, which is connected to the bank staircase via a movable walkway. This bridge can only be used by pedestrians or cyclists ( 25 ° 50 ′ 36.9 ″  N , 114 ° 56 ′ 6.6 ″  E ).
