The Dângrêk Mountains, seen eastward from Maw I-daeng ( Thailand )

The Dongrek Mountains (also: Dângrêk Mountains , Khmer : Chuor Phnom Dângrêk ; Thai : ทิว เขาพนม ดง รัก , Thiu Khao Phanom Dongrak ) is a mountain range along the border between Thailand's northeast region ( Isan ) and Cambodia . It stretches almost 300 kilometers from the Sankamphaeng mountain range of the Khao Yai National Park across to the Chong Bok Mountains , where the borders of Thailand, Cambodia and Laos meet.

The gentle slope to the north in contrast to the steeply sloping south is characteristic of the mountain range. The gentle ascent is hardly noticeable from the Thai side, but the border to Cambodia is along a steep slope.

The Dongrek Mountains mainly consist of flat hills with the Phu-Phan and Phra-Wihan formations of solid sandstone and mica-containing slate and silt . To the north of the range of hills, between the south of Nakhon Ratchasima province and the south of Ubon province , there are characteristic basalt elevations, such as the Dong Chan Yai at 293  m and the Dong Chan Noi at 290  m . Further east is the Khao Phanom Rung with a height of 377  m .

Compared to the Phetchabun Mountains , the Dongrek Mountains are only of moderate height. The highest point is in the east at 756  m , only a few other mountains are more than 600  m high, such as the Phalan Sun ( 670  m ) and the Phanom Ai Nak ( 638  m ).

Prasat Preah Vihear , the famous 11th century Khmer temple , is located in the Dongrek Mountains, on the Cambodian side of the border.
