Donnchadh, 4th Earl of Angus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Donnchadh, 4th Earl of Angus (English Duncan , † between 1211 and 1214 ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was Gille Críst, 3rd Earl of Angus , his mother's name is unknown. After his father's death around 1204, he inherited his father as Earl of Angus .

Only a few details are known from his life: in the period between 1198 and 1204 he was mentioned in various documents from his father. Like his grandfather and father before him, he supported the monastery in Arbroath with donations ; Several documents from the years between 1204 and 1211 have been signed by him, one of which was authenticated by Wilhelm the Lion . He died no later than 1214.

Donnchadh was once married, but the name of his wife is not recorded. From this marriage there were at least two sons; Maol Choluim , later 5th Earl of Angus; as well as Hugh, who as a "cleric" can only be found in documents of his relatives. A possible third son, Duncan, cannot be proven beyond doubt.
