Donnie Van Zant

Donald "Donnie" Newton Van Zant (born June 11, 1952 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is an American southern rock and country singer / guitarist / composer. He became known as a member of the band 38 Special , which he founded in 1975. He is the middle of three brothers, his older brother was Ronnie Van Zant (born January 15, 1948) the original singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd , who lost his life in a plane crash on October 20, 1977 in Mississippi. This also came Steve Gaines (born September 14, 1949), Cassie Gaines (born January 9, 1948), the Roadie coach Dean Kilpatrick and the pilot Walter McCreary and William Gray died. His younger brother Johnny Van Zant is now the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Donnie Van Zant and Johnny Van Zant perform together from time to time as the band Van Zant.

Donnie Van Zant is an avid fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars . He recorded a video with the rest of Lynyrd Skynyrd, which is played at every home game of the team.
