Doppelpass is a documentary film by the Swiss director Gregor Frei from 2007.

action

Five Turks, an Iranian, so-called secondos from Switzerland, travel without a visa as a self-organized team to an international street football tournament in Munich. There they have the new experience of not being “the other” like in Switzerland, but that everyone is considered “different”. For example, the Brazilians stand out because they constantly want to exchange their jerseys for items of value.

Some of the young people react to the new insights into foreign cultures with helplessness or rejection and others with happiness and fascination. So they play against Kosovar Albanians, whom they “don't really like” at first, but who soon become their friends. The players appear in the jerseys of the Swiss national team as well as in Turkish jerseys and see themselves as dual citizens.

When the players are exposed to the seductions of the big city, of the opposite sex and the opportunities to raise their profile, they find themselves caught in a field of tension between professionalism and youthful border crossing. Accompanied by strong emotions, a rift develops in the team that cannot be closed until the end. After all, the players just want to go home again.

Film festivals

In 2008, Doppelpass was shown at various national and international film festivals, for example at the Solothurn Film Festival or at the European Independent Film Festival in Paris.
