Ventricular reconstruction

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under a Ventrikelrekonstruktion is meant a cardiac surgical procedure to normalize the geometry of the left ventricle of the heart to durchgemachtem heart attack .

After a major heart attack with significantly reduced pumping function , the formation of scar tissue and remodeling of the myocardium lead to ischemic cardiomyopathy . The altered shape of the left ventricle also worsens the ejection performance, so that surgically attempts are made to restore the heart to its original shape by removing non-pumping heart sections. This is intended to improve cardiac output.

A corresponding surgical procedure named after the Monegasque doctor Vincent M. Dor was published for the first time in 1989 . The procedure used today, the Surgical Anterior Ventricular Restoration Operation (SAVER-OP), is a modified technique of this ventricular reconstruction according to Dor.

In one study, SAVER surgery performed in addition to coronary artery bypass surgery could not be seen as having any advantage over bypass surgery alone.
