Dora Alonso

Dora Alonso , actually Doralina de la Caridad Alonso Pérez (born December 22, 1910 in Matanzas , † March 21, 2001 in Havana ), was a Cuban journalist and writer.

Life

Alonso was a daughter of David Alonso Fernández and his wife Adela Pérez de Corcho Rodríguez. After first attempts at writing during her school days, she became a member of the editorial board of the newspaper "Prensa Libre" in 1933. Politically interested and committed, she joined the anti-imperialist organization Joven Cuba in 1934 . a. also the acquaintance with Constantino Barredo Guerra .

During this time Alonso began to write for various radio stations and from this time onwards she also wrote her first children's books. Later her two novels "Tierra brava" and "Soy el Batey" were filmed.

At the age of 91, Dora Alonso died on March 21, 2001 in Havana, where she also found her final resting place.
