Dora Möller (born October 16, 1894 in Rehhorst ; † November 2, 1981 in Lübeck ; born Dorothea Schomann ) was a German politician ( SPD ). In 1946 she belonged to the first appointed state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein .

Life

Dora Möller was the daughter of a day laborer; she had three siblings. Her parents' home was shaped by social democracy. In 1919 she married Johannes Möller, who was active as a social democrat in Lübeck. She joined the SPD in 1919. One of her contemporaries in Lübeck, where she lived with her family, was Willy Brandt , with whom she performed in an amateur drama group. She was a member of the workers' welfare organization, was a member of the supervisory board of the local consumer cooperative and took care of neglected young people.

Dora Möller's husband was imprisoned by the National Socialists in 1935. She fought for his release. At first she turned unsuccessfully to the NSDAP Gauleiter Friedrich Hildebrandt and finally to Hermann Göring . Her husband was released three months later. He died in 1944. After the end of the Second World War , she resumed her political work in the SPD on May 17, 1945. During this time, too, their work was mainly aimed at young people in need, where their own children were behind. She told them, as her son reported: You don't need help, but they need help.

In 1946 she was appointed to the first Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein, whose members were appointed by the British military government , and was a member of the Health Care Committee. After the end of her parliamentary mandate, she devoted herself to party work in the SPD local association Holstentor-Süd in Lübeck. She found the work of the SPD women's groups too apolitical and criticized the lack of political interest of women: You shouldn't leave everything to the men!
