The Dorados were a Swiss hit, beat and show band that existed from 1961 to 1985.
history
They were founded as "El Dorado" in 1961 in Lucerne . Walter Grüter (solo guitar, bass, vocals) initiated the formation of the group. Among the founding members were Fredy Enz (band leader, piano, organ, bass, vocals), Ruedi Loeliger and Franz Bühler. Later came Peter Baumgartner (drums, vocals), Franz "Franco" Bussmann (bass, guitar, piano, voice), Luc Modolo (tenor saxophone, flute, vocals).
From 1964 to 1965 they were signed to Layola Records as "The 5 Dorados" and recorded many English-language titles.
From 1965 to 1967 the "Dorados" were under contract with Polydor . In addition to many German-language titles, cover versions of well-known hits were played, e. B. " (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction ". This was recorded under the German title "Keine Klasse". Lyricist and producer Kurt Feltz brought the Dorados to Cologne in the summer of 1965 and wrote the hit "Der Tiger" for them, which was to be their first great success the following year and was broadcast mainly on Radio Luxemburg . The melody comes from the Belgian composer and clarinetist Marcel Peeters .
In the late 1960s they played as a backing band for the Italian singer and producer Giorgio Moroder . He was the producer of the LP "The Best Of The 5 Dorados", which was released in 1966. In 1973 the single "Come to the beach with me" (Vamos a la playa) was released on the Mabel label. They appeared on German television with Chris Howland in music from Studio B on June 13, 1966, on September 7, 1974 in the show " Amlauf Band " and on September 27, 1975 in ZDF Show Cocktail: Fun and Music - Colorful mixed.
In 1977 the sextet wanted to record the Spanish track "Vera Cruz" as a single. None of the band members had the appropriately high voice for the song. They were finally found with Andy Lütolf, who was employed as a roadie (lighting technician) for the Dorados. The single "Mary ven con migo" reached number 5 on the Swiss charts and stayed in the top ten for 15 weeks.
In January 1985 the band broke up.
