Doraemon Story of Seasons ( Japanese ド ラ え も ん の び 太 の 牧場 物語 Doraemon Nobita no Bokujou Monogatari ) is a farming simulation and role-playing game for Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows that is a crossover of the Story of Seasons series of video games and the Doraemon franchise. The game was developed by Brownies and Marvelous and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The release of the title marks the first ever Doraemon video game release for Western audiences.

The game was released in Japan on June 13, 2019, followed by an international release on October 11, 2019.

Game mechanics

The game combines the elements of the farming simulation from the Story of Seasons series with the well-known characters and gadgets from the Doraemon franchise. The player plays as Nobita and takes on agricultural activities such as plowing the fields to grow crops, caring for cows and sheep and more. The game also features a fishing system, house decoration system, insect trapping collection system, holidays and festivals similar to the other Story of Seasons games.

Characters from the Doraemon series such as Giant and Shizuka also appear as supporting characters and support Nobita in his adventures. As the story progresses, more useful Doraemon gadgets can be unlocked that grant special abilities like weather maps that can change tomorrow's weather and the Anywhere Door, which allows Nobita to quickly travel between areas .

action

After planting a mysterious seed found by Nobita, Doraemon and friends are transported to another world, to a place called Shizen Town. During the process, Doraemon lost most of his secret gadgets that will help them get back. Eventually they decide to stay in Shizen Town while they try to find a way to return to their original world. Lunch, a Shizen Town resident, loaned Nobita a farm in town to sleep on.

development

In an interview with Famitsu , it was revealed that Doraemon Story of Seasons was a suggestion from Bandai Namco producer Kenji Nakajima to Marvelous, given that he is a fan of Marvelous' Story of Seasons series. He grew up with Doraemon and is also a fan of Harvest Moon: Back to Nature . He wanted to create a game in which the player would experience the messages and the nature of stories from Doraemon, coupled with the gameplay elements of Story of Seasons , which appropriately reward the player's efforts.

He also confirmed that the game will have no romance or wedding features, which is different from the classic games in the Story of Seasons series. In return, the game offers a linear story with a focus on family love. There are also several side stories that also relate to family love, for example between siblings or for pets. There are many family run businesses in town with their own side story related to the relationship system. The theme of family love continues to be explored while Nobita's friends like Shizue and Giant help out in the shops.

During the interview, Story of Seasons production director Hikaru Nakano also revealed that Marvelous is working on another Story of Seasons game at the same time , and Doraemon Story of Seasons will help expand the Story of Seasons series even further . Marcel Weyers, among others, was responsible for the German translation.

publication

The game was first announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation on February 14, 2018 in Japan, accompanied by a teaser trailer showing the basic gameplay. Bandai Namco announced the official release date for June 13, 2019 in a press release in April. A downloadable demo for Nintendo Switch was later released in Japan in May along with a new trailer.

In a separate announcement in April, Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia and Korea announced a traditional Chinese and Korean version of the game to be released in the summer of 2019. They also announced a Microsoft Windows version of the game to be released through Steam . A follow-up announcement from Bandai Namco also confirmed the release of an English version of the game in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. The game will be released physically in Europe and Southeast Asia and digitally in North America.
