Bemetara is a city in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh .

The city is the capital of the Bemetara district . Bemetara has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 18 wards . It had 28,536 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census , of which 14,280 were men and 14,256 women . The literacy rate in 2011 was 81.0% and thus above the national average. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of around 82%. Muslims form a minority with a share of around 4%.
