The Winterbach Village and Local History Museum primarily documents the local history of the Baden-Württemberg community of Winterbach in the Rems Valley .

Local history collection

In 1934 Karl Nachtrieb gave the community a first collection of historical objects for a permanent museum. During the Second World War these stocks were dispersed. On Heimattag 1968, a new collection of local history was set up in the basement of the old school. In 1975 the museum was given its current domicile in Haus Dobelmann, a two hundred year old farmhouse acquired by the community. The building with garden and bakery and its originally furnished rooms give an insight into rural and bourgeois life in pre-industrial times. Other focal points of the collection are archaeological finds from the Middle and Neolithic Age as well as evidence of flax processing and craftsmanship.

Julie Palmer Memorial

Memorial plaque on the house where Julie Kern was born

Since 1984 a room has been set up on the second floor for the Winterbach local poet Julie Kern (1858–1938). Under her pseudonym Julie Palmer she published short stories, fairy tales and plays in the Swabian dialect . The establishment of the memorial was supported by the German Literature Archive in Marbach . A memorial plaque on the house where she was born - the former "Gasthaus zum Adler" - and her grave in the old cemetery remind of the author.
