Village well in Massenbachhausen

The village fountain in Massenbachhausen in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg was built in its current form in 1985.

history

In Massenbachhausen there were once several wells that initially served to supply the population with water. In 1873 four running, two pump wells and one scoop well are mentioned. Even with the expansion of the sewerage and water supply shortly after 1900, a total of seven wells are mentioned, but these were gradually superfluous due to the house connections and were removed over time. In 1959, a purely decorative new local well was installed on Backhausplatz in the center of the village. However, the population repeatedly polluted this well with rubbish, so that it was temporarily shut down in 1964 and later converted into a flower bed.

In the early 1970s, when the building area north of Fürfelder Strasse was being developed, the community built a new village well in the entrance to the settlement. This first fountain at this point was round and had a water fountain in the middle. The round shape of the fountain corresponded to the street situation at the time, as the entrance to the settlement was designed as a roundabout .

In 1984, large-scale construction work took place in this area for reasons of flood protection , with a rain overflow basin being built in the area of the former roundabout . Today's fountain in the form of a segment of a circle with a fountain column was built above this underground basin. The stone fountain column has two points, a metal coat of arms of Massenbachhausen is attached above the fountain pipe. The fountain was designed by the garden architect Reinhold Dupper from Bad Friedrichshall and executed by the Satteldorf company Schön + Hippelein.

The installation of the fountain was preceded by an inspection of comparable fountain systems in the neighboring communities; the decision in favor of the model was made for cost reasons. The cost of the fountain was 11,000  DM , the surrounding green space was created for a total of 14,000 DM.

In addition to this fountain, other village fountains were built in Massenbachhausen: one at the end of the village in the direction of Gemmingen at the location of the old building yard that was demolished in 1979 and another on the square in front of the 1992/93 town hall.
