Unteratz village church
The Protestant Lutheran village church in Unterkatz is located in the district of Unterkatz in the town of Wasungen in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia .
history
After the Reformation in 1544, the original parish of Unteratz was restructured. The parish of Unterkatz was reduced in size. After the human losses in the Thirty Years War , the area around Unteratz was almost deserted. So the original parish shrank.
After the introduction of the Reformation , the villages became completely Protestant. The church in Unterkatz is a main church. It offers space for 300 people. In addition, it was built as a fortified church with walls. It even includes the rectory, the former cemetery and the school building. The organ was purchased in 1656. It has been playable again after a restoration since 2018. The pulpit bears small figures of apostles. The existing Mose figure is impressive .
