The village church Windberge is the Protestant church of the village Windberge in the Altmark in Saxony-Anhalt .

Architecture and history

The church, built on a rectangular floor plan from field stones, was built in the middle of the 13th century during the Romanesque period . Originally the church did not have a tower, but a bell gable on the west side . At the beginning of the 18th century, the small church was given a timber-framed roof tower that included the old bell gable. The framework is lined with bricks and plastered. The tower is crowned by an octagonal pointed helmet. In the years 1756/66 a renovation took place. At the end of the 19th century, the nave received its current arched windows. The brick choir was added on the east side.

From the original construction of the church, two small walled arched portals can still be seen on the south side.

Interior design

The interior of the church has a flat ceiling. There is a groin vault in the choir , the flat triumphal arch is stepped. The round window located there shows Christ as the judge of the world in a stained glass painting dated 1898. The furnishings are all from the end of the 19th century. During the Second World War , the side windows of the nave were destroyed. After the end of the war, they were given new lead glazing .

To the south of the church there is a war memorial that commemorates the citizens of Windberg who died in the First World War .
