The village church Winzerla is in Winzerla , a district of the city of Jena in Thuringia .

The church is located west of the federal highway 88 , which runs through the district , west of the Berlin - Munich railway line and west of the Saale in the center of the former village in the rural area of ​​the city of Jena. It is the main church of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer community .

Her fate

In the Thirty Years War , marauding troops burned the church down. On April 8, 1650 it was inaugurated again.

Construction activity

1716–1718 the church was built as good as new due to major structural damage and was given its current appearance. Repairs were made repeatedly in the church tower and ship .

In 1818, for the 100th anniversary, the interior was refurbished with a pulpit altar, two galleries, an organ and a baptismal font.

In 1934 the church was repainted. The 56 fields of the galleries show flower and animal motifs. The flat mirror vaults decorated with stucco ornamentation from the time of construction shows vines and grapes and is reminiscent of the main source of income of the former wine-growing village.

In 1978 the stalls and altar were renovated.

In 1990/91 the tower received a slate , the new weather vane and three electrically operated bells , in 2003 gutters were installed.
