Dorothea Redepenning

Dorothea Redepenning (* 1954 in Glückstadt ) is a German musicologist and professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Life

Redepenning first studied music at the University of Hamburg , majoring in the flute . There she passed her exams in 1978 and then studied musicology, German and Romance languages . 1984 doctorate it with a thesis on the late work of Franz Liszt to Dr. phil. and then worked as a research assistant in a DFG research project on Liszt's writings in Detmold. Then she took a teaching about Slavic music cultures true at Hamburg University before settling in 1993 with a thesis on the history of Russian music habilitated .

After substitute professorships at the Universities of Marburg and Erlangen , she accepted a position at the University of Heidelberg . There she has held a full professorship at the musicology seminar there since 1997. From 2000 to 2008 she was dean of studies first of the philosophical-historical, then only of the philosophical faculty. Under her leadership, the courses were converted from Magister to Bachelor and Master degrees.

Works (selection)

Redepenning's research focuses primarily on the music of Eastern Europe, especially Russia and the former Soviet Union. One focus is the music of the 19th and 20th centuries, especially with regard to symphony and opera. She also researches the history of reception and intercultural processes. With regard to individual composers, the focus is on Franz Liszt, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Galina Ivanovna Ustvolskaya .
