Dorothea Weltecke

Dorothea Weltecke (born June 10, 1967 in Arolsen ) is a German historian .

Life

Weltecke studied history, Semitic studies and art history at the Free University of Berlin from 1988 to 1996, with an MA. From 1992 to 1999 she was a scholarship holder of the “ Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes ”. In 2000 the doctorate to Dr. phil. For her dissertation entitled The "Description of the Times" by Mōr Michael the Great (1126–1199). A study on its historical and historiographical context was awarded the Ernst Reuter Prize of the Free University of Berlin in 2001.

From 2000 to 2001 she was a research assistant in the DFG project “Trust” by Ute Frevert at Bielefeld University . From 2001 to 2007 she was a research assistant for Frank Rexroth at the University of Göttingen . From 2007 to March 2017 she was professor for the history of religions at the University of Konstanz . Since 2013 she has been the head of the Research Center for Aramaic Studies . In the summer semester of 2017 she moved to the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Weltecke's main research interests are the history of religions, the Orient and Europe in exchange, conflict and perception, the history of the Latin and Oriental churches and the history of religious deviances.
