Dorothea von Flüe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dorothea von Flüe ( Dorothea Wyss [in]; * around 1430 - 1432 in Obwalden , † after 1487 in Sachseln ) was the wife of the hermit Niklaus von Flüe .

Life

Little is known about her life from contemporary sources. Dorothea is said to have married 25-year-old Niklaus when she was about 14 years old. With her consent, her husband Niklaus said goodbye to the family in 1467 and then lived as a hermit .

In the oldest biography of Brother Klaus in 1488, she is described as God-fearing and extremely pious. Her first and last name were first mentioned in 1501 and 1529.

reception

Sculpture by Rolf Brem from 1991. Artistic representation of Dorothea without reference to her actual appearance, which has not been passed on due to the lack of contemporary representations.

According to the Brother Klausen Foundation, Dorothea's permission for Niklaus von Flües hermit life means that Dorothea must be assigned an important role. Every now and then a possible canonization of Dorothea was discussed.
