Dorothea Mary Stanislaus Gerard de Rochsoles , married Longard de Longgarde ( 1855 in Glasgow - 29 September 1915 in Vienna ) was a Scottish writer who lived in Austria-Hungary .

Life

Dorothea Gerard was born in Glasgow as the fifth of seven children to Archibald Gerard and Euphemia, born Robison. Her older sister Emily Gerard also became a writer.

She began to write at an early age, at times she and her sister delivered a story every week. She spent most of her childhood in Austria . She was brought up with her younger sisters at the Sacré Coeur in Graz . After the mother's death - Dorothea was 15 years old - her sister Emily took over custody. She was married to the military Miecislaus de Laszowski, who was repeatedly stationed in different places. This led to the two sisters traveling extensively.

From 1877 the two sisters began to write novels, the three-volume work Reata being published first. Three more jointly written novels followed.

On April 12, 1887, Dorothea married a soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army , Julius Longard, in Marburg / Maribor . In 1894 her husband was given the title "Longard von Longgarde". They had a daughter together, Dorothée Stanislaw Julia (born July 29, 1888 in Vienna, married to Paulus von Ferro, died May 22, 1943 in Dubrovnik ). Since they got married, she has enjoyed success writing her own entertainment novels, including Recha ,   Etelka's Vow and A Queen of Curds and Cream . She died in Vienna after a long illness and was buried in the family crypt at the Vienna Central Cemetery.
