Dot. is a Canadian - American animated series . The first broadcast took place on September 6, 2016 on the Canadian television network CBC , in German-speaking countries the series started on October 1, 2018 on Nickelodeon . The series is aimed primarily at preschoolers .
The series is based on the children's book Dot. American entrepreneur Randi Zuckerberg , the older sister of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg . Randi Zuckerberg was also involved in the production of the television series.
action
The main character in the series is the tech-savvy eight-year-old Dot. With her friends Hal, Ruby, Nev and Dev and dog Scratch, she has various adventures and explores the world around her. She likes to use modern technologies and scientific approaches to master situations or problems, but also “classic” values such as cohesion, trust and friendship help the actors to master their everyday life and make it as exciting as possible.
Dot. aims to show children, especially young girls, how to use new technologies, mathematics and science in an age-appropriate manner. It was important for Dot's creator Randi Zuckerberg to introduce girls to the so-called STEM disciplines ( equated with the MINT subjects in German-speaking countries ). In addition, it should be shown that the integration of new technologies into everyday life should be taken for granted, as long as an appropriate balance is maintained.

So far (as of November 2018) 78 episodes of the series have been produced in two seasons.

Particularly positive is the focus on children, especially girls, and the way in which the series shows that adventure and children's play can be positively combined with technology and natural sciences, namely through an appropriate balance between "digital" and "real" World.

The series also received nominations at the ACTRA Awards 2017 in the category “Outstanding Performance - Voice” for Lilly Bartlam and at the Canadian Cinema Editors Awards 2017 in the category “Best Editing in Animation” for the episodes Remembering Ogopogo and Scaremaster 2.0 .
