Douglas "Doug" Bing (born October 27, 1928 in Broadstairs , † February 5, 2013 in Margate ) was an English football player.

Career

Bing came in the summer of 1950 by the St. Peter's Old Boys for FC Margate . After only 14 appearances for the club playing in the Kent League , he moved on the recommendation of his coach Almer Hall on New Year's Day 1951 for 1,250 pounds, a record fee for Margate, to West Ham United . There Bing, who was used at Margate as a half and winger, was withdrawn to the position of the outside runner and made his professional debut in the Second Division on September 1, 1951 against Hull City . In the following four seasons he was a supplementary player at West Ham and came to a total of 33 competitive appearances.

In the summer of 1955 he returned to Margate and took over the captain's armband for the 1956/57 season. On the advice of his doctors, he ended his career in January 1959 after a groin injury in April 1957 had kept him away from the game. His brother Tommy Bing also played for Margate and was under contract with West Ham rivals Tottenham Hotspur between 1954 and 1959 .

Bing worked for the model railway manufacturer Hornby Railways .
