Doug Dorst is an American novel, short story writer, and creative writing instructor. Dorst is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and the Stegner Fellowship at Stanford University . He currently teaches in the MFA Creative Writing Program at Texas State University in San Marcos .

Dorst is the author of the novel Alive in Necropolis , with which he won second place at the Hemingway Foundation / PEN Award in 2008. He was also awarded the Emperor Norton Award and was included in the One City One Book Selection 2009 of the City of San Francisco . His collection The Surf Guru also received positive reviews and was selected for the Frank O'Connor Short Story Award .

In October 2013 he published his biggest project to date with the novel S. (Eng. S. - The Ship of Theseus ), which he published in collaboration with Hollywood director JJ Abrams .

Dorst wrote various episodes for the series Z: The Beginning of Everything , published by Amazon-Video in 2017 . For the episode Die Abrechnung , he received a credit as a screenwriter.

Dorst is a triple jeopardy! -Winner and has on Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions participated.
