Doug Hoyle, Baron Hoyle

Eric Douglas Harvey Hoyle, Baron Hoyle (born February 17, 1930 ) is a British politician.

He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1974 for the Nelson and Colne constituency. He narrowly lost his seat in the 1979 election, but was able to return to Parliament in 1981 when he was given the safe Labor constituency of Warrington in the 1981 by-election .

Hoyle renounced in the 1997 general election and was raised on May 14, 1997 as Baron Hoyle , of Warrington in the County Palatine of Cheshire, to life peer . Because of the title, he has been a member of the House of Lords ever since .

He is on the board of directors of the Warrington Wolves Rugby League and a board member of Debt Free Direct.

Lord Hoyle is Freeman of Gibraltar and in 2010 he was awarded the Gibraltar Medallion of Honor .

In November 2010, the University of Chester awarded him an honorary doctorate .
