Douzain from 1575; Henry III. (France)

A douzain (French: twelve ) is a French coin of the early modern period . One douzain was equivalent to twelve denier tournois, or since Charles IX. twelve sol tournois . As twelve times the value of the denier / sol small coins, the douzain is formally a successor to the solidus ( shilling ) of the Carolingian coin system . Douzains were first minted by Francis I.
