Dove-2 is an earth observation satellite from the US company Planet Labs (formerly Cosmogia ) in San Francisco , California .

The satellite was launched on April 19, 2013 10:00 UTC from Baikonur together with the Bion-M1 biosatellite and the five small satellites AIST 2 , Beesat-2 , Beesat-3 , OSSI 1 and SOMP with a Soyuz 2.1a rocket . On April 21, he was separated from Bion-M1.

Structure and payload

The Dove-2 is a 3U size Cubesat . The satellite has a small camera and is intended to demonstrate the technical possibilities of how inexpensive satellites can be built using COTS components.
