Dover Samuels
Dover Spencer Peneha Samuels (* 9 July 1939 ) is a politician of the New Zealand Labor Party (NZLP), among others, from 1996 to 2008 a member of the House of Representatives as well as between 1999 and 2000 Minister of Māori affairs concerning ( Minister of Māori Affairs ) was .
Life
Samuels, a member of the Māori Iwi tribe , served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) and worked as a fisherman for thirty years. He was then director of Far North Marine Ltd and operator of a tourism facility in Matauri Bay on the North Island . He began his political career for the New Zealand Labor Party (NZLP) in local politics and was a member and deputy chairman of the Council of the Far North District and executive vice president of the Māori. In 1990 he was awarded the Commemoration Medal for his services .
On October 12, 1996 he became a member of the House of Representatives for the first time on the NZLP list . On November 27, 1999, he was elected in the constituency of Te Tai Tokerau and then belonged to the House of Representatives from September 17, 2005 to November 8, 2005 as a representative of the NZLP list.
On December 10, 1999, Dover Samuels was appointed Minister of Māori Affairs ( Minister of Māori Affairs ) by Prime Minister Helen Clark and held this office until June 28, 2000. At the same time he was between December 10, 1999 and June 28 2000 also Minister for Fisheries and Tourism. He was later from March 27, 2001 to August 15, 2002 both Parliamentary Undersecretary of State to the Minister for Economic Development and Parliamentary Undersecretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Regional Development.
