Down on the Farm is an American short film , partly animated by Tex Avery and Lou Lilly, from 1941.

action

The animals on a farm are shown, including horses, chickens, ducks, pigs and cows. All animals speak, a parrot orders a beer, a horse complains about the heavy rider who recently sat on it, a donkey insults the audience watching this film, and a barn owl sings a song by Bing Crosby .

Down the Farm was made as part of the Speaking of Animals short film series . Recordings of animals were provided with separately filmed mouths by rotoscopy and thus made to "speak".

The film was released on August 18, 1941. Other parts of the Speaking of Animals series, which ran until 1949, included In a Pet Shop , In the Zoo and the Oscar-winning short films Speaking of Animals and Their Families and Who's Who in Animal Land .

Awards

Down on the Farm was nominated in 1942 for an Oscar in the category " Best Short Film (A Film Role ) ", but could not prevail against Of Pups and Puzzles .
