history

Erwin Barth : Place on Marly (1907)

The Marli district goes back to Count Egmont von Chasôt , who, as Lübeck city commander, bought a small estate on the Wakenitz, which he renamed Marli after the pleasure palace of the French king and made it the center of Lübeck society.

The district park "Platz auf Marly" was laid out in 1909 by the city gardener Erwin Barth on the site of the former gardening centers because of the beautiful view that one has from there of Lübeck . Recognizing the charm of the location, he used the topography with six individual squares, from which he designed views to the west of the panorama of Lübeck by framing the views with architectural and garden elements. With native trees and undergrowth he created spaces with walking paths and provided grasses and herbs instead of lawns.

The architectural means corresponded to a mixture between the style of the Rococo and the English landscape garden .

The Drägerpark

information sign

When the 4-hectare Drägerpark was built on the site, the 1.3 hectare space was added to Marly, although the original structure was still recognizable, including the terrace space on Marlistraße.

The trees on the sloping sides of the site were expanded with ornamental trees and undergrowth, and daffodils were planted on the slope.

The design for the redesign of the Drägerpark is based on the establishment of walking paths, playgrounds and a large playground. The sloping terrain is used as a toboggan run in winter.

The park was given to the city in 1977 as a gift from the Dräger Foundation . A name stone with the year was set up on the slope.
