The airfield Hockenheim is a special airfield in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis . It is approved for gliders , powered gliders , microlight aircraft and powered aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of up to two tons.

Incidents

  • On May 7, 2011, a Schleicher ASK 21 glider took off in winch launch . At a height of about 80 meters, the winch rope broke. After an interception curve, the aircraft hit hard and was badly damaged. The pilot was unharmed.
  • On September 10, 2017, a Glider of the Rolladen Schneider LS8 -a type took off in a winch start. At a low altitude, the aircraft went into a very steep tow, tilted to the right and hit the ground almost vertically about 200 meters from the take-off point. The 60-year-old pilot died at the accident site.
