The airfield Pattonville is a German airfield at Pattonville . It is located within the northern boundary of Stuttgart , near the Pattonville settlement, on the road between Kornwestheim and Remseck - Aldingen . It is classified as a special landing site and suitable for aircraft up to a total weight of 3500 kg.
history
The airfield was built before the Second World War . At that time it was used by the Wehrmacht . After the end of the Second World War, the US Army took over the airfield as "Ludwigsburg Army Airfield" and expanded it during the Korean War with missile positions, among other things. It was only after the war that the re-established German aviation clubs were able to use the military airfield. In 1979 the Flugbetriebs-Gemeinschaft Ludwigsburg-Pattonville e. V. brought into being by all clubs active on the site. This made it easier to represent interests vis-à-vis the authorities and the US military. With the withdrawal of the military in 1992, the continued existence of the Pattonville airfield was initially uncertain for the German clubs. However, it was possible to continue operating the airfield. New rules were introduced, such as the "approach via reporting points" and not the usual "approach in the traffic pattern". Flight time and landing restrictions were also set to protect the surrounding communities from noise.
Since July 16, 2003, the Pattonville airfield has been known as the “Pattonville Special Airfield” with the ICAO identifier EDTQ. As a result, the association was renamed "Flugbetriebsgemeinschaft Pattonville eV" at a general meeting in order to make the special bond with the neighboring residential area Pattonville clear. The surface of the runway was renewed in 2001.
Due to the increased air traffic at Stuttgart Airport , the rescue helicopter Christoph 51 was relocated from Stuttgart Airport to Pattonville Airport on October 1st, 2009.
