The special airfield Backnang-Heiningen ( ICAO location code: EDSH ) is an airfield near Backnang , which is operated by the Backnang-Heiningen air sports club .

Flight operations

The special airfield Backnang-Heiningen has a 500 m long grass runway. The place is operated by the local association. The frequency for radiotelephony is 123.71  MHz .

Club, aviation sports and facilities

The Backnang-Heiningen air sports club currently has around 80 active members. On the square is mainly gliding , next powered flight (including motor glider ) and ultralight airplane operated. Occasionally hot air balloons and helicopters can also be found. The square currently has three halls . The oldest hall at the end of the airfield towards Heiningen is mainly used for gliders . There is a clubhouse with a canteen, office and classroom. In the newest hangar there are all sorts of types of aircraft; it has a heated workshop. The LSV Backnang-Heiningen trains glider pilots. Thanks to a cooperation with the Erdmannhausen flight training association, it is also possible to obtain a motorized flight license on site. UL pilots are trained by the Airworxx association.

location

The airfield is located in the Backnang Bay at an altitude of 294 m. It belongs to the Heiningen district of Backnang. In the south there is a smaller mountain range that is used by glider pilots as slope thermal . The municipality of Weissach im Tal is to the east and Allmersbach im Tal to the south . In the west is Heiningen and in the north it goes towards Backnang .

Incidents

  • At the annual Fliegerfest on September 10, 2011, a Boeing PT-17 Stearman biplane crashed shortly after take-off, the pilot was slightly injured.
  • At the Fliegerfest on September 9, 2012, a Robin DR 400/180 Régent crashed after taking off. Three people died in the accident and another was seriously injured.
