The Wächtersberg airfield is a special airfield in the Nagold Valley . It lies at an altitude of 1962 ft (598 m). The operator is the Aviation Association Wächtersberg. It is approved for gliders , motor gliders , ultralight aircraft and powered aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of up to two tons. There is also a glider runway.

history

Even before the Second World War , gliders were operated in Wildberg . After the flight ban in Germany was lifted after the Second World War, glider operations started up again in Wildberg. But only after the aircraft hangar, built in 1954, burned down completely after an arson attack , flight operations were relocated to the site of today's airfield. In 2000 and 2001 a petrol station, parking lots, a new hall forecourt and in 2002 a new tower were built. In 2014, the glider airfield was approved as a special landing site.

Incidents

On August 26, 2007, a glider-type launched Focke-Wulf Crane III in the wind start to a local pleasure flight . The flight was initially normal. When the aircraft turned on its final approach at a height of about 120 meters , however, it did not straighten up again, but continued to circling. It tipped over at a low height, went into a tailspin and hit the ground almost vertically. The glider was destroyed and the pilot killed. The second person on board was recovered seriously injured, but died shortly afterwards in hospital .
