The Dr. Kurt Fischer settlement (previously: Gendarmerie settlement ) is a locality in the Saxon community of Arnsdorf . The settlement planned in the style of a garden city was named after the German politician Kurt Fischer (1900–1950).

location

The Dr. Kurt Fischer settlement is on the eastern edge of Arnsdorf. It is limited by Stolpener Strasse in the direction of Fischbach (S 159) and Zur Massenei in the direction of Seeligstadt . The Saxon Hospital Arnsdorf is located directly next to the settlement .

history

The construction of houses began in 1921 on the premises that belonged to the hospital at the time. By 1923, the so-called gendarmerie settlement, consisting of several residential buildings, an administrative building and a farm building, was built. The apartments served as quarters for the members of the local rural gendarmerie . The first residential units were occupied on September 30, 1922. Each apartment in the complex was assigned its own garden, which later served primarily for the residents to be self-sufficient. The horses and personnel carriers of the mounted police were housed in the farm building. From 1926 onwards, more and more hospital employees moved into the apartments. From 1930 the hospital took over the complete administration of the gendarmerie settlement. During the Second World War , all buildings were provided with air raid shelters . After the death of the Saxon Interior Minister Kurt Fischer in 1950, the settlement was given the name Dr.-Kurt-Fischer-Siedlung .

Name controversy

The naming of the settlement after the politician Kurt Fischer is now viewed critically by some historians such as Mike Schmeitzner and Michael Richter , as several researchers associate Fischer with the death of the Saxon Prime Minister Rudolf Friedrichs (1892-1947). In addition, Fischer's role as a “Stalinist secret service cadre” is the subject of controversy. As an option for the settlement, for example, naming it after Rudolf Friedrichs is being considered.
