The Dr. Paul Koch GmbH is a specialist in surgical bandage splints and movement splints for hospital needs based in Frickenhausen in Baden-Württemberg. The company has existed since 1879 and employs 18 people.
history
The company was founded by Paul Koch (born June 30, 1844 - April 13, 1911), who ran a pharmacy in Neuffen and another in Owen . During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 he worked in a field hospital and followed the fighting army to Paris . Back then, injuries could only be splinted with simple means such as wooden slats, branches and sticks. Koch saw that these methods had little success and decided to set up a factory of surgical bandages and hospital supplies to improve care options. He received support in founding the company from a comrade, the doctor Paul von Bruns from Tübingen (* 1846, † 1916). The first rail that Paul Koch designed was the Cramer rail . This is the first flexible, adaptable rail. It has been padded and bandaged to hold it in place.
In 1910 the extension cap according to Professor Heussner could be manufactured. As a further product, Paul Koch developed the first motorized movement rails. The model has been further developed up to the current Fisiothek 2000 product line. The motorized movement splint is used for postoperative, passive mobilization of hip joints, knee joints and ankles.
During the First World War , the company produced a large number of bandage splints in a new, larger factory building. The move to the new factory building took place in 1911/12. At that time the company was managed by Koch's son, Georg Koch. He had sold the two pharmacies so that he could concentrate on the production of splints.
The founding idea from the 19th century is still valid today. The inventions of the splints by Paul Koch are still widespread today in medicine, especially in the treatment of broken bones. The product range has been expanded over time. Today's motion rails are microprocessor-controlled .
