history

The Bielefeld pharmacist August Wolff founded the Sudbrack nutrient works in 1905 . Later it became the Dr. August Wolff GmbH & Co. chemical - pharmaceutical factory; Build-up preparations, dermatological products and other cosmetics were produced .

In 1930 Alpecin was developed for the care of the scalp. After the company's founder died in 1942, his son Kurt took over the company; In the post-war period, the focus was initially on the production of essential medicines such as B. Insulin.

After the end of the Second World War , the company Alcina Cosmetic Dr. Kurt Wolff founded, today Dr. Kurt Wolff GmbH & Co. KG to separate the cosmetics sector from the pharmaceutical sector.

In 1981 Kurt Wolff was posthumously awarded the Unna Medal of the German Dermatological Society for his services in dermatology.

In 1984 the Dr. Kurt Wolff Institute opened in Bielefeld and in 1996 the company gave the city of Bielefeld the Alcina watch on Jahnplatz for the 50th anniversary of the house brand.

At the beginning of 2015 it was announced that sales in 2014 had increased by around 18 percent. The growth abroad in particular resulted in greater sales. In particular, the Singapore, England, Hungary and South Africa markets generated around 50 percent more sales than in the previous year. Alpecin is seen as the strongest brand of the Bielefeld company. The company plans to invest tens of millions in logistics, production and central administration at the Bielefeld location by around 2017.
