Dr Eidgenoss is the artist name of the Swiss musician Urs Fischer (born March 28, 1980 ). He became known with folk music around his homeland Nidwalden .

Career

Urs Fischer grew up on a farm in Obbürgen in the central Swiss canton of Nidwalden and in Eschenbach . After school he worked as a postman in the canton of Lucerne for 10 years and occasionally worked as a photo model before making music his profession. In 2010 he signed a contract with Universal in Switzerland and a year later he released his first album Nidwaldner Wurzlä under the name Dr Eidgenoss , an allusion to the role his homeland played in founding the Swiss Confederation. So the lyrics of his self-written songs are very homely. His preferred instruments are the Schwyzerörgeli and Alphorn . Then there is the yodel singing , which he learned from his mother Maria Fischer-Bircher. She also often supports him in his performances and album recordings as a yodeler and singer. In addition to his long hair and his full beard, his trademark is the traditional Nidwalden costume with a “fazenetli”, a red scarf that traditionally indicates that he is still single.

With his first album, Dr Eidgenoss reached number 29 straight away in 2011 and stayed in the Swiss charts for three months . The following year he advertised the inauguration of the second Stanserhorn cable car with his song Stanserhorn . This was followed by television appearances, including on Samschtig-Jass and the talk show Aeschbacher, and in 2013 the second album Heimat isch Trumpf .
